A day at home not welcomed

This morning I was turned away from my local station. 'Power surges' were cited as the reason but when we were told the whole tube network had been suspended my heart skipped a beat. I made my way home to follow the news on the TV/Radio/Online and to my horror my worst fears were confirmed. London has been his by a coordinated terrorist attack - such a frightening phrase, one of fiction.
I have been able to keep tabs on all the news as it happens through out the day and as well as the news sources this attack has been covered by bloggers and photographers alike. There has been a pool set up on Flickr where people are posting photos taken throughout the day, and screen shots of the main headlines. Also there are countless bloggers posting acounts and stories from the day too (as reported by BBC News).
My first reaction was to make sure friends and family were safe. I have been able to contact almost everyone I know who is working in town either by phone/text/instant messenger/email. I was also able to guide friends to a safe route home by being in front of the PC.
Knowing that if my plans were as usual today I too might have been caught up in todays events has shocked me greatly. My heart goes out to those directly affected and pity to those who think they can gain by causing such terror.
